Vision

Narcotics are substances such as opium, morphine, and heroin, which depress the nervous system to reduce severe pain, numb the senses, and induce sleep. Once addicted, the individual’s control over self becomes limited and the need to take the substance triggers violence and crime to obtain money to sustain the habit. The addict requires special external help to stop using drugs. The lives of many accomplished artists, film stars and politicians have come to naught due to drug addiction, while some have recovered to show a way towards rehabilitation.

Availability of drugs in the neighborhood is a vital factor in the problem of narcotics. The number of people getting addicted and the number that sustain their addiction will drastically reduce if the drug is not easily available. One might assume that a tighter police force and good law is sufficient to reduce drug abuse. However, the nexus between law enforcement, political leaders, and drug cartels is very strong and billions of dollars are at stake. With the end of the Cold War, funds for terrorist and guerrilla groups declined significantly and these groups took to the narcotics trade for generating funds. With terrorist and weapon cartels depending on drug money to finance their operations along with their strong governmental links, narcotics has become a huge social problem. At the core of it is the individual who is addicted to drugs. An individual’s psychological problems lead to him/her to drug use. Unknowingly, the addicts are weakening themselves and are supporting terrorism and other dangerous activities in society at the individual level. The drug-rot in society can be eliminated when the individual decides to come out of the habit and support others in de-addiction.
