Vision

“Devastation” was the outcome of the blasting of the twin trade towers with hijacked airliners in New York. One 9/11 altered the image of the United States and the once indomitable Superpower lay shattered in the eyes of the world.

Buildings and lost infrastructure can be rebuilt but emotional scars remain forever. The way one individual perceives another changed after 9/11. Skin color, style of hair, costumes worn, and other racial and religious features elicit instantaneous distrust, fear, suspicion, and hate. This level of mistrust may take generations to overcome. 9/11 also impacted the economy of countries across the world. More resources in the United States and other developed countries went into strengthening security at various levels, while revenues from tourism dropped. Revenues flowing into the US from control over gasoline and through developmental projects are at a scale of billions of dollars a day. The call against Terror, though it may be justified, has given an entirely different picture to the American public and the world. Claims that the US manipulates regional politics and balance of power for its own benefit of having control over petroleum remain unanswered.

Indeed, 9/11 is one of the greatest turbulences of the 21st century impacting nations and people across the world. The psychological and social impact of 9/11 needs analysis, even more than the physical, as the roots of socialism, democracy, human bonding, and trust remain shaken.

February 21 is International Mother Language Day.

The universal language of mothers is love, tolerance, and forgiveness, which needs to be fed to our children along with the equally rare mother’s milk.
